A scenic drive north from the hip, bustling beach scene of Puerto Vallarta, through old-growth jungle and typical small towns, lies a place where the only crowds consist of feeding birds and nesting turtles.

Several miles off the highway, at the end of our sandy road, is the hidden world of Playa Las Tortugas (Turtle Beach), where you can warm yourself in the tropical sun and clear blue Pacific waters of Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit.

Miles of Beach

“I’ve been in search of the perfect beach since I first saw the ocean decades ago. Now I’ve found it.” The Mail Tribune (story by the Washington Post)

Along this wide crescent of protected coastline, stretching from the south at Boca Chila north to the fishing village of Platanitos with it’s sand-floored seafood restaurants, Playa Las Tortugas nestles between a natural, palm-lined estuary and mile after mile of untracked beach.

Our environmentally friendly community offers resort-style services without the resort crowds.

We share the beach with a sea turtle conservation camp, professionally staffed by veterinarians specializing in marine life, where guests can participate in the preservation of endangered sea turtles.

Bordering us on the west are more than five miles of quiet pristine beach.

It’s a great beach for walking, running, or riding horseback on the pure warm sand that’s waiting just for you.

Just a hundred yards or so from our homes you’ll find a great spot for surfing, boogie boarding, body surfing, and wave kayaking.

Bordering us on the east are 1100 acres of mangrove-lined salt water estuary excellent for canoeing, kayaking and bird watching.

Of course this is all accompanied by custom beachfront and ocean view villas situated in a working coconut palm plantation.

“ ... a gorgeous, coconut-producing plantation, an 1,100-acre estuary teeming with exotic birds and a turtle camp protecting the endangered olive ridleys ... stylishly designed villas for rent to vacationers or for sale ... Visitors at Playa Las Tortugas can go out on nightly turtle patrols and also help with the release of hundreds of hatchlings, or paddle out into the estuary to watch birds like the spectacular roseate spoonbill as it flies over ... ” Entree

In Harmony with the Natural Rhythms

“I have the privilege of experiencing a working sea-turtle camp firsthand because I am staying at Playa Las Tortugas, a charming, ecologically minded property on an otherwise uninhabited stretch of pristine beach. Next to a tidal estuary lined with mangroves—where I spend a glorious afternoon in a canoe, spotting roseate spoonbills and great blue herons, among other bird species—this property demonstrates the value of conscientious development.” Alaska Airlines Magazine

Playa Las Tortugas places a premium on environmental stewardship, responsible development, and community.  Our deluxe villas and refreshing amenities were designed to harmonize with the natural rhythms and denizens of this very special place where land meets sea.

“The villas at Playa Las Tortugas, 70 miles north of Puerto Vallarta, share 5 miles of creamy beach with nothing but a coconut palm plantation.....volunteer to rescue turtle eggs on the beach....place baby turtles on the wet sand, and watch as moonlight sparkling off the waves guides them to the sea....” Sunset Magazine
