Shopping for Groceries and Other Provisions
For shopping to stock up on food, snacks, drinks, or other items there’s a shopping center just one minute south from the airport, in the direction of Puerto Vallarta. You can also continue towards Puerto Vallarta a few more minutes to WalMart, Sam’s Club, and even Starbuck’s.
To go to Puerto Vallarta, or to go shopping for food at the nearby shopping centers, follow the signs out of the airport for Puerto Vallarta. This road from the terminal turns into an access lane that will bring you out to a stoplight. On the right hand side of the road you will find “Comercial Mexicana” (open 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.). It is a large supermarket / department store that has a wide selection of foods and dry goods and bakery.
To continue to Sam’s Club and WalMart, when the light is green proceed in the access lane straight thru the light passing by the “Comercial Mexicana” shopping center. At the far end of the shopping center watch for a merge lane where you will merge left into the main stream of traffic. Continue straight towards Vallarta. You will pass by a statue of “Neptune” on top of a building on your right, and then the Naval Hospital. Begin watching for the “Pitillal” sign, and move again to the right access lane out of the main stream of traffic in order to make a left at the Pitillal stoplight. Do not make a left turn from the center lanes (illegal and dangerous). Only make this left turn from the access lane while the green arrow is lit. Sam’s Club and Wal-Mart is directly across to the left from the Pitillal stoplight. If you miss the turn simply go to the next light, use the right side access lane to turn left on the green arrow, and return to Sam’s. Sam’s Club is open from 7a.m. to 10 p.m. If you don’t have a membership card a temporary “day” membership is available at the customer service counter.
In the “Comercial Mexicana” center there is an HSBC bank for money exchange, and ATMs outside and inside of the “Comercial”. There is also a McDonald’s, a rotisserie chicken take-out, a photo store, a copy center, a liquor store, and other services.
At Sam’s and WalMart there are also ATM’s.
You will have a better chance of finding specialty snack foods at Comercial Mexicana, Sam’s or WalMart than in our more rural area.
To go to downtown Puerto Vallarta follow the main road past Sam’s Club, another 10 minutes.
