Explore the Miles of Mangroves

Playa Las Tortugas is adjacent to a natural, protected 1,100-acre saltwater tidal estuary home to an amazing variety of wildlife. Launch a canoe, kayak, or one of our small boats at the estuary inlet just behind the Sea Turtle Conservation Camp.

From there you can explore miles of pristine mangroves filled with more than 125 species of birds including spotted sandpipers, roseate spoonbills, and great blue herons.

The low tides of early morning and late afternoon are best for seeing hundreds and sometimes thousands of feeding birds.
