Playa Las Tortugas - the beach

Playa Las Tortugas is your beachfront oasis nestled at the north end of 11 miles of quiet palm-lined beach near the fishing village of Platanitos. We’re in the state of Nayarit on the west coast of Mexico only 70 miles north of Puerto Vallarta.

Your scenic drive north from the Puerto Vallarta International Airport takes you through areas of old-growth jungle and coastal hills, dropping down to the ocean and turning down our sandy road into another world that you won’t soon forget.

Here you’ll find tropical warm waters, blue skies, coconut palms, deluxe villas, colorful sunsets, starry nights, and one of the most favorable climates in the world.

Our beach is ecologically protected, and is part of one of the primary nesting habitats in the Americas for several species of sea turtles.

With the help of the Sea Turtle Conservation Camp operated by the veterinarians and biologists of Mexico’s National Commission of Protected Areas (CONANP), it is not unusual for 85,000 to 115,000 hatchlings to be released to the ocean each year.

Playa Las Tortugas is adjacent to a protected 1,100-acre saltwater tidal estuary home to an amazing variety of wildlife. It’s perfect for canoeing, kayaking, bird watching, and catch-and-release fishing. Launch your canoe, kayak, or one of our small boats at the estuary inlet just behind the Sea Turtle Conservation Camp.
